My Background: I have been writing everything from essays, poems and short stories since I was very young. Writing is one of my greatest strengths, uniquely influenced by my Autism. I have been interested in many different areas of knowledge and various media forms, such as movies, books, video games, anime and manga, music, indigenous cultures, world history (particularly the ancient world), and the natural world in general. All of these, as well as my Christian background and my biracial heritage, influence who I am and the kind of creative work I do to this day.
Why I Write: Writing is more than just a way to express myself, whatever that means. It is a way to communicate my mind to the world (especially in poetry), and to expand the boundaries of what I know and understand (especially in prose). Also, I love playing around with ideas and creating things that are unique and unseen. When I write poetry, I feel free and unconstrained, no matter how technical I get, because you can say a lot in a little, and it is a potent way of communicating my experience simply and clearly. When I write fiction, it is a way of not only playing around with ideas, but getting inside a different world. I love this, especially as a fan of Sci fi and Fantasy and a student of different cultures and places around the world.
I Find Joy From: I find joy from things like walking in the woods or observing animals and plants. The natural world is a wonderful refuge and source of enchantment. I derive a lot of inspiration from random things I find walking in the woods, or watching documentaries about biodiversity hotspots, and I am fascinated by different aspects of how nature operates. I also find joy in advocating and spending time with other people who are disabled in some way, as well as reading spiritual books or books about different cultures.
